Ahhh, Atlanta at last!!! After 34
hours of being on the road, we arrived in Atlanta around Midnight on Saturday, May 31st. Some of cities we were in on the way down; Kansas City, St.
Louis, Nashville. In each of the cities on the way down we did one thing. In Kansas city, our first major city out of Denver, we went to the Cheese Cake Factory on The Plaza. It was our first chance to ride our bikes around. The Plaza was really gorgeous with lots of fountains and shops. I wish Denver had something like this, but being cold here I don't think the fountains would fair well. St. Louis was next on the list. To our surprise this town was dead. I mean dead. Old broken down buildings in the main part of downtown. Looks like a hurricane hit the place and everyone left. We tried to find something to eat, but all we found was a White Castle hamburgers. Not at all what we had in mind. Our solution? See the Arch and go to Nashville for food. In Nashville we headed straight for the happening part of town. It took us about 30 minutes but we finally hit pay dirt. We ate at the Planet Hollywood. As sad as it may seem, we rejoiced when we saw the Jumanji game box. It was a real trip! MT drove from Nashville on down to Atlanta. I was so tired. One of the weirdest towns we were in was named Metropolis. Now I know what you are thinking..."is this the Metropolis from Superman?". No, it wasn't. But the people in the town sure thought it was. Finally, we hit Atlanta in the middle of the night. Using our our trusty MapQuest map, we found the Motel 6 in Norcross and paid for our room. I took a few moments, configured eMpTy's powerbook for my Internet provider hookup in Atlanta, and then went to slept for nearly 12 hours. After Atlanta |
